As the new football season starts to loom closer the transfer window has seen West Bromwich Albion sign Matt Clarke from Brighton and Hove Albion on a season-long loan deal.

Clarke has been on loan at fellow Championship side Derby County for the last two seasons since joining Brighton in 2019; he will now be out on loan as he looks to impress and earn a chance to show what he can ultimately do at the Amex Stadium under Graham Potter.
‘Excited’
Clarke told the official West Brom website that he was excited to be at the Hawthornes and hoping to help his new club get back into the Premier League at the first attempt following relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2021/21 campaign;
He said: “I’m really excited by the challenge. This is a club which is looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League. I want to give my all to help Albion achieve success this season.”
The 24-year-old centre half who used to play for Portsmouth has not managed to make any appearances at all for Brighton but with two years left on his current four-year contract there does still seem to be time for him to make his mark but he will have to catch the eye on loan once more.
Derby County were hoping to re sign Clarke on loan but the East Midlands clubs ongoing financial issues meant any deal was never going to be possible.
Clarke made 81 appearances in his two seasons at the Rams and was player of the year in the 2019/20 season.
