Burnley are close to signing former Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey on a free transfer, reports Simon Jones of the Daily Mail. The 34-year-old left Palace at the end of last season when his contract expired.
There had been interested from Chelsea and Aston Villa to bring him in as a back-up, but Burnley appear to have won the race, with second-choice Bailey Peacock-Farrell looking likely to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan.

Experienced Stopper
Hennessey is no stranger to the Premier League, having spent eight seasons at Crystal Palace prior to his departure this summer. The Wales international also made over 150 appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in his career, 71 of which came in the top flight.
The 34-year-old had been the regular number one at Palace for a number of years but fell down the pecking order after the arrival of Vicente Guaita. He made just three Premier League appearances in the 2019/20 season and was limited to just one appearance last season, which came in the Carabao Cup.
Burnley held talks with Hennessey last week and he looks set to become the number two to England keeper Nick Pope, who is currently recovering from injury.
Peacock-Farrell Likely to Leave on Loan
To make room for Hennessey in the squad, Burnley are likely to loan out Bailey Peacock-Farrell, with League One side Sheffield Wednesday taking an interest.
The 24-year-old made eight appearances for the Clarets last season but has limited senior experience – something Sean Dyche will feel he can gain with regular playing time elsewhere.
Burnley also have former Wolves keeper Will Norris in their ranks, who will retain his role as the third-choice behind Pope and Hennessey.
McNeil Interest
In other Burnley news, Everton have shown an interest in signing winger Dwight McNeil.
While there haven’t been any discussions yet, new Toffees boss Rafael Benitez is keen to add the England U21 international to his squad alongside the impending arrivals of Andros Townsend, Demarai Gray and Asmir Begovic.
