Norwich City Sign Josh Sargent
City Bring in American Reinforcement, Days Before the New Season
After reports of a deal closing in, Josh Sargent has finally completed his move to Norwich City. The American international joins a long list of players from German football to join manager Daniel Farke’s side. A fee of around £8 million reportedly sealed the deal.
Sargent will be link-up with former Werder Bremen teammate Milot Raschia. The Kosovan joined the Canaries in July for £9 million.
Sargent appeared for the 2.Bundesliga side 95 times, scoring on 22 occasions in all competitions. Last season, the American scored just five goals. However, he started life off well before departing Germany, scoring two in as many games this season.
Return to the Top Flight for Norwich
The East Anglican club have been relatively busy during this window. As they prepare for life back in the top-flight after just one season away, Farke will want to ensure their survival this time around. One could argue that this signing is a brave one, as Sargent possesses no Premier League experience. However, it could prove to be a well-worth gamble if the American international can find his feet in the top-flight.
Speaking on the club’s official website, Sargent said: “I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League, so it’s a very exciting opportunity for me.”
The majority of the club’s arrivals this summer are young, with some experienced veteran players arriving too. Sargent continues this trend for Farke, as it appears the manager is willing to take a chance on a younger crop of players this time around in their return campaign to the Premier League.
Whether or not the American will feature heavily in the first-team is remain to be seen. However, it could well be worth noting he could be one for the future.
