Inter Milan Agree Deal for Edin Dzeko

Edin Dzeko

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan have agreed a deal with AS Roma to sign Edin Dzeko. The striker has reportedly agreed a deal until June of 2023 and will undergo a medical before being unveiled.

The news will bring with it a sense of relief for Inter fans, who have been surrounded by bad news all summer, from Antonio Conte’s exit to Romelu Lukaku’s pending departure to Chelsea. Dzeko, however, is a much-needed piece of positive business. In the short-term option, he can replace Lukaku, allowing Inter to form a far more extensive plan in regards to incomings.

Inter Agree Deal for Edin Dzeko

Not a Long-Term Option

As touched on before, Edin Dzeko is far from a long-term option. At 35, there is no denying that he is past his prime and on his way to retirement. But, such is the need to find a Lukaku replacement before the season begins on August 14, Dzeko was the only feasible option.

The experience he’ll bring, which comes with the age, will benefit Simone Inzhagi’s men, as he prepares for his first season in charge at the San Siro. Whether Dzeko will be able to play every game is another question, but, when available, he’ll take the leadership role with pleasure.

Last season with Roma, he still managed 27 out of a possible 38 games. So, clearly, fitness is not an issue despite the age; it’s just about managing fixture congestion wisely. In those aforementioned appearances, the forward scored a total of seven goals and registered a further four assists in the Serie A.

11 goal contributions for a 35-year-old at the top table of Europe is far from disappointing. If Inter can improve those numbers that bit more, then they’ll have themselves a solid option. Together with Latauro Martinez, the task will be to replicate the incredible numbers Romelu Lukaku managed last season.
