Everton Sign Salomon Rondon

Salomon Rondon

Everton have completed the signing of Salomon Rondon from Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional.

The deal sees the Venezuela international reunite with current Toffees manager Rafa Benitez, who originally signed him for the Chinese side in 2019, but also during his tenure at Newcastle United in the 2018/19 campaign.

Rondon Set to Work With Rafa Benitez Yet Again

Rondon, 31, first arrived in the Premier League in 2015 with West Bromwich Albion and spent three seasons at The Hawthorns before joining Benitez at Newcastle on loan.

During his loan spell for the season at St James’ Park, he scored 12 goals in 33 league games, after netting 28 goals during his stint at West Brom before that.

Now, he has sealed a return to England to work alongside Benitez again, at Everton on this occasion, following their successful spells at various clubs.

The Toffees will view Rondon’s previous experience and knack for goal scoring in the league as paramount to them breaking into the elusive ‘top six’ this season.

Everton Find Their Replacement for Moise Kean

Rondon will make the move to Goodison Park as a direct replacement for Moise Kean, who has left the club to rejoin former side Juventus.

The 21-year-old forward came through the Juventus academy and made his breakthrough to the senior team in the 2016/17 season. Everton signed Kean from Juventus in 2019, but it simply hasn’t worked out for him in Merseyside.

The Italy international is set to make his return to the reigning Serie A champions on a deal structured as two years, with an option to buy at its conclusion.

Defender Niels Nkounkou has also departed the club, joining Standard Liege in Belgium on loan for the season.
