Feyenoord Improve Attacking Options With Reiss Nelson Loan
Feyenoord have added to their attacking options through Reiss Nelson. The Dutch side had been in pursuit of Manchester United winger Amad Diallo before a move fell through due to an injury to the Ivorian international.
However, Feyenoord swiftly turned their attention to Arsenal with Nelson considered a viable alternative.
Nelson has represented England at every level between U16-U21. He has previously been away on loan with Hoffenheim in Bundesliga, where he scored seven goals in 23 league games.
Primarily a right-winger, Nelson had shown considerable potential in the U23s, being involved in 30 goals in his 46 appearances at the level.
Since moving up to the first team he has made 48 appearances, scoring four times and contributing to another four goals.
Nelson Looking Forward to Life at Feyenoord
Nelson is bound to get more minutes in the Eredivisie than he would in the Premier League with Arsenal, giving him a greater platform to prove his level. He has only featured in 19 minutes of Arsenal’s season so far – as a substitute v Brentford, a 2-0 loss on the opening day.
Reiss Nelson told feyenoord.com: “I’m looking forward to playing in this fabulous stadium. Feyenoord is a great club and a nice challenge for me. I hope that I’ll be able to give the fans something to cheer about soon.”
Nelson will wear the number 14 shirt and work under former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie at the club.
Sporting director Frank Arnesen added: “We’ve been following Reiss for months now. Bringing him to Feyenoord in this transfer window was one of our priorities, so we are very happy that we’ve managed that and that we are able to welcome him today.
“Reiss is a very creative striker, a rapid boy, good with his feet, who makes things very difficult for defenders in one-on-ones. We can really use a player like that in our forward line.”
