Another busy week at Oxford United comes to an end with the U’s picking up three points on their travels at Burton Albion. Elsewhere, manager Karl Robinson will self-isolate for ten days after testing positive for coronavirus before a midweek win over Shrewsbury Town.

Oxford’s First-Ever Football League Goalkeeper Dies Aged 83
On Tuesday, former Oxford United goalkeeper Owen Medlock passed away, aged 83. The former Chelsea man joined the U’s (as Headington United) in December 1959 and went on to make 133 appearances for the club.
Owen was in goal as Oxford United made their Football League debut against Barrow in August 1962 with his final game for the club coming against Newport County in May 1965.
Oxford United Manager Karl Robinson Awaiting PCR Results
Tuesday also brought the news that U’s boss Karl Robinson would miss the game against Shrewsbury Town as he awaited the results of a PCR test for COVID-19.
If the result was to return positive, the Oxford head coach would need to self isolate for ten days, meaning he would miss matches against Burton Albion and Tottenham Hotspur U21s. He would also watch the league clash against Shrewsbury Town at home.
Win Against the Shrews
Despite Robinson’s absence, Oxford bounced back from last weekend’s defeat against Plymouth Argyle with a 2-0 win over Shrewsbury.
Second-half goals from Mark Sykes and Cameron Brannagan ensured the three points for the U’s who move back up to eighth in the table.
Robinson to Miss Next Two Games
On Thursday, Karl Robinson received the results of his PCR test and they came back positive for coronavirus. As a result, the U’s boss will miss Oxford’s next two matches.
The fixtures in question are Saturday’s trip to Burton Albion and the visit of Tottenham Hotspur U21 in the Football League Trophy. The head coach will also miss all training sessions until the Thursday after the match against Spurs.
Win Over the Brewers for Oxford United
On Saturday, Oxford United recorded back to back away league wins with a 3-1 victory over Burton Albion.
The U’s took the lead inside the opening minute through Matty Taylor and doubled their advantage before the break through a deflected effort from Nathan Holland.
Despite the hosts pulling one back, James Henry restored the two-goal advantage from 12 yards after Taylor was brought down in the box.
The results lifts the U’s up to sixth in League One ahead of a home game against Morecambe next weekend.
