Jack Ross has been sacked by Scottish Premiership club Hibernian. His dismissal comes after a seventh defeat in nine games at the hands of Livingston on Wednesday night. The defeat also saw two of Hibernian’s players sent off in what was the last straw for the board of the Edinburgh club.
Ross was due to lead his team out at Hampden Park later this month for the Premier Sports Cup Final against Celtic; however, caretaker manager David Gray will have this honour should a replacement not be appointed in time.

Performances and Results Not Good Enough
Hibs began the season well and by the end of September, they had amassed 15 points from their first seven league games. However, an alarming loss in form followed which saw just four points won in nine games. Jack Ross’ side were in freefall and both he and the Hibernian board knew it.
Following the defeat to Livingston Ross is quoted by The Scottish Sun as saying: “That level of performance was not good enough so the criticism should fall upon me. We were not good enough in all aspects of our play.
“That all falls on my shoulders. I own it. It’s my team and the team that was on the park for 60 to 70 minutes is nowhere near good enough to win games in the Premiership.”
Ross took charge at Easter Road in 2019 following his departure from Sunderland. He had led the Black Cats to the EFL Trophy Final and the League One Play-off Final. However, he failed to win either. He also had spells as manager at Alloa and St Mirren prior to taking charge at the Stadium of Light and then Hibernian.

Hibs issued a statement shortly after relieving Ross of his duties: “Following the prolonged run of poor results in the league, the Club has taken the tough decision to relieve Jack Ross of his duties.
“We thank Jack & John for all their hard work and dedication to the role, the club has moved forward under their leadership, and we will fondly remember some incredible highs like reaching two cup finals and finishing third in the league last season.
“We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. The Club will now look to appoint a new manager to take the club and this talented young squad forward and a further update will be provided in due course.”
