Jamie Vardy Injury Adds to Leicester City Woes

Jamie Vardy Injury

Despite a compelling victory in their last match against Liverpool on Tuesday, problems are mounting for Leicester City, with a Jamie Vardy injury in that game coming to the fore. It has been confirmed that the forward will miss three to four weeks.

Jamie Vardy Injury Confirmed by Leicester City

Injury Woes Mount for Brendan Rodgers

Jamie Vardy has been struggling for a while with a hamstring issue and was rested when Leicester lost 6-3 to Manchester City on Boxing Day, but returned for the home tie against Liverpool where the injury has been aggravated. This led to Rodgers confirming the player could be out for up to four weeks. Rodgers told a press conference:

“Jamie will be out. It could be the next three to four weeks. It’s a hamstring. He could soldier on, which is what he wanted to do, but the scan has shown up as that.” (Sky Sports News)

Injury and Covid Concerns

Rodgers has been among a group of managers growing increasingly concerned about injuries and Covid amid the hectic festive fixture pile up. Rodgers feels that the fatigue around his players has contributed to a growing injury list:

“I think the fatigue element in that combination of games has probably led to it.”

Since the news of Vardy’s injury broke, it has been announced that Leicester City’s next match on New Year’s Day against bottom club Norwich City has been postponed, with Norwich only having four squad players training on 30 November. And that break may just bring a little relief to Rodgers as he tries to patch up his side going into the final half of the Premier League season.

The Foxes will hope to build on their victory over Liverpool, despite the Jamie Vardy injury. After a relatively disappointing first half of the season, Leicester must improve in the new year.
