AC Milan are keen on acquiring a centre-back this transfer window. Previously not a position of concern, the Rossoneri must make a move here due to the season-ending injury of Simon Kjaer. The Dane was arguably Milan’s top player during the first-half of the season, so he will be sorely missed. “We’ll definitely go for a centre-back. Let’s see if on permanent deal or loan.” Milan development director Paolo Maldini said to DAZN via Fabrizio Romano.
Rumours are swirling about Milan’s interest in Dutch international and Lille star Sven Botman.
“He’s a very good player, he’s under contract until 2024 – but Botman’s not the only good option. There are other centre-backs available,” Maldini said to DAZN when asked about Botman.

Kjaer’s injury leaves Fikayo Tomori, Alessio Romagnoli, and Matteo Gabbia as Milan’s primary centre-back options. Tomori remains sensational, and is assured a spot in the starting 11. Romagnoli, however, remains inconsistent. He’s still Milan’s captain, and certainly a vocal leader, but his performances are dipping. Starting him every match is no longer ideal. Gabbia shows promise here and there. With that being said, he remains too inexperienced.
Milan are committed to a Scudetto run. They need more certainty in the defence, though. And Botman presents a great opportunity. First off, he’s just 21-years-old. This, of course, shows that he can be a long-time partner at the back to Tomori. Besides his age, Botman is also a very good player. Lille remain a solid team overall, and Botman is amongst the top players.
Milan hold a strong relationship with Lille. Stars Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan are formerly of Lille. The French team produces talent, and Milan knows this well. A deal for Botman may not be easy, but one certainly worth looking in to.
