Club Statement
Chelsea came to the conclusion that a request to postpone the match was needed following numerous positive cases of covid-19 in their squad and other players unavailable due to injury.
“Those who returned positive tests immediately began a period of self-isolation in accordance with Public Health England and Government guidelines,” the club said.
“The health and safety of our players, support staff and fans remain paramount.”
“A revised date for the match will be confirmed in due course. All existing tickets to remain valid. Supporters who have purchased match day tickets can claim a full refund no later than 48 hours prior to the updated fixture date.”
Chelsea also confirmed no other Chelsea team has been affected by this outbreak.
Covid-19 Continues to Hit WSL
Chelsea’s match against Tottenham is not the only game to be impacted by the latest round of testing. Manchester United’s Sunday trip to West Ham United Women had been earlier postponed due to a suspected Covid outbreak among players and staff.
The FA said that 40 positive cases of Covid-19 had been reported between 28th December and 3rd January across the Barclay’s FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship. This was slightly down from the previous week’s 44 positive cases.
