Women’s Football: Liverpool Sign Stengel, Hemp Extends & More

Katie Stengel Joins Liverpool

Experienced United States-born striker Katie Stengel has joined FA Women’s Championship leaders Liverpool. The 29-year-old is reunited with manager Matt Beard, who she played under at Boston Breakers.

Stengel has been training with Liverpool for the last week and was announced as a new signing earlier today. She could make her debut v Blackburn Rovers Ladies on Sunday, January 9.

Stengel told liverpoolfc.com: “It’s amazing to be here, everyone has been so welcoming and I can’t wait to get started. I always wanted to play in this league and when I got in contact with Matt it was just fate, I guess, and maybe a little bit of luck!”

Beard added: “Katie is different to the front players we’ve got at the club and brings a wealth of experience, having played at Bayern Munich and some of the top clubs in America. She’s an athletic forward who’s good in tight spaces. We only worked together briefly but she’s a good finisher and it’s we have those options in those positions where we’ve had some injuries and keep up competition for places.”

Liverpool have lost just one league game this season as they look to return to the FA Women’s Super League, they top the Championship, two points clear of Durham Women, with a game in hand.

Elsewhere at Liverpool, as reported by Emma Sanders, Rinsola Babajide’s contract has been mutually terminated, also ending her loan spell with Brighton & Hove Albion Women.

West Ham United Add Emma Snerle

West Ham United Women today confirmed the signing of 20-year-old Danish midfielder Emma Snerle.

Snerle arrives with tons of promise having scored 30 goals in 68 starts for Hjørring. She made her international debut in 2019 and has since amassed 22 caps.

Snerle told West Ham TV: “I’m just happy to be here and excited to get started. It’s a big league, a big club and I’m just really excited to get started. I’m an attacking midfielder. I like to be creative and make my teammates look good. I also want to score myself.”

West Ham are currently 7th in the FA WSL. Sunday’s game against Manchester United Women, which was due to take place at the London Stadium was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak at the club.

Lauren Hemp Extends Manchester City Stay

Lauren Hemp has extended her contract with Manchester City, keeping her at the club until the summer of 2024.

Hemp said to mancity.com: “I know there is much more to come from this team. I’m surrounded by some of the best players and coaching staff in the world, and having them around me will only help to develop me even further over the coming years.”

Hemp is one of the finest talents in the game and despite City’s struggling season, starred in England’s 20-0 win over Latvia, scoring four goals. Her extension will provide Manchester City with great relief.

Charlton Athletic Sign Jorja Fox on Loan

Charlton Athletic Women have signed Chelsea’s Jorja Fox on loan. The 18-year-old is Addicks boss Karen Hill’s first signing of the January window.
