As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, Todd Cantwell has been told he can leave Norwich City. The midfielder has previously been linked with moves away without anything coming to into fruition. Now, however, having featured just 10 times all season, the 23-year-old has been given a green light for a departure.
Where Cantwell ends up is yet to come to the fore. So far, according to Sky Sports, Newcastle United and one other Premier League club have shown interest in taking the Norwich City outcast. With Newcastle keen to spend their newfound riches, too, it would come as little surprise to see Cantwell wearing the famous black and white strip this month.
Todd Cantwell Told He Can Leave Norwich City
Looking to Get Back to His Best
Todd Cantwell will probably be the first to admit that he hasn’t had the best year of his career. Even as Norwich dropped down to the Championship, we never really saw the glimpses of promise shown in the Premier League rise into standout performances. Scoring just six goals, and providing a further eight assists, it was, at the very least, a season to build on.
Halfway into the Premier League season, however, and Cantwell hasn’t impressed, and looks inevitably destined to depart. Perhaps starting fresh will do him good. Perhaps, at a new club, we will finally see the 23-year-old become the player many believe he can become. The potential is still there, it’s just about finding it.
If Newcastle is the next destination for Cantwell, then the relegation battle may just find a new twist, as he fights against his former club for survival. Of course, as of right now, Cantwell remains a Norwich player with a bid yet to arrive. Such is the fast pace of the January transfer window, however, it may not be too long before he gets his move.
