Nani Returns to Serie A With Venezia After MLS Spell

Venezia Lead the Way

Nani recently left Major League Soccer side Orlando City after scoring 31 goals in 88 games for the club. The 35-year-old winger played in Serie A in 2017/18 when Valencia loaned him to Lazio. He scored three and assisted three in 25 appearances for the Rome-based side.

Following his spell in Serie A, Nani returned to Sporting CP, where it all started for him and former teammate and friend Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese winger was popular throughout his time at Manchester United, making 230 appearances, managing 41 goals and 73 assists.

Venezia have completed the signing of Nani after he was also offered to Bologna and Genoa – it is reported talks never proceeded with those fellow Italian clubs.

Nani arrives as a free agent, something that made him a very attractive proposition with all the experience he holds. He has maintained numerous goals and assists throughout his two years in Orlando and could still have plenty to offer.

Nani made 112 appearances for Portugal between 2006 and 2017, scoring 24 goals and gaining a winners medal at Euro 2016.

He is no stranger to success – winning four Premier League titles and much more, including the Champions League with Manchester United – though his task with Venezia is much different. The club sit 17th in Serie A, just one point clear of the bottom three.

Venezia signed another former Manchester United player in the summer in Sergio Romero. The Argentine goalkeeper has kept three clean sheets in 13 appearances for the club so far. Both players add invaluable experience to the club who were promoted from Serie B in 2020/21.
