Chelsea’s main goal in this January transfer window is finding a short-term replacement for Ben Chilwell at the left wing-back spot. The Englishman saw his season brought to an abrupt end after suffering an ACL injury leaving the Blues with no clear option for a starter in that spot. While the club has brought Kenedy back from his loan at Flamengo, it doesn’t appear that the Brazilian is in Thomas Tuchel’s plans. Chelsea are looking to recall Emerson Palmieri from a loan at Lyon while Layvin Kurzawa and Ivan Perisic have also been identified as possible replacements, according to The Guardian.
Chelsea Rumoured to Have Interest in Layvin Kurzawa and Ivan Perisic
In Talks With Layvin Kurzawa
The Guardian has stated that Chelsea are explicitly “in talks” to sign Layvin Kurzawa on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Les Parisiens signed the French international left-back from Monaco in 2015 and he has made 106 appearances for the club since then. Kurzawa currently finds himself out in the wild as he has played just nine minutes for PSG this season with manager Mauricio Pochettino opting for the likes of Abdou Diallo and Juan Bernat instead.
Ivan Perisic Linked
This one is a lot less grounded as the report simply states that Chelsea are “linked with” Ivan Perisic. The 32-year-old has been a consistent fixture in the lineup for Inter Milan. With 111 caps for Croatia under his belt, as well as a decade of high-level football to his name, the versatile Perisic would be an excellent veteran addition to the Chelsea squad. However, it isn’t likely to be easy to get him.
Chelsea will be hoping to get a deal done soon so they can focus on the task at hand of awarding Antonio Rudiger a new deal, although he could be on his way out the door if the club and player cannot agree to an extension.
