Inter Milan are in advanced talks for Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens, according to Fabrizio Romano. They are facing stiff competition from Newcastle United, who are fresh off an injection of transfer funds but remain in the lead.
Gosens is 27-years-old and in the prime of his career. The German is the kind of player Inter need to secure their second straight Scudetto.

The Player and the Fit
Gosens has been in Serie A playing for Atalanta since 2017. In that time, Atalanta have been a force to be reckoned with, both domestically and in Europe. It’s safe to say Gosens has plenty of top-level experience under his belt.
He can play left-back and on the left side of midfield. Not only is Gosens a tough defender, but he also contributes quite a lot going forward. In 2019/20, Gosens scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 34 Serie A matches. Clearly, those are phenomenal attacking statistics for a defender. The following season, he scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 32 matches.
Gosens has struggled for time on the pitch this season, due in part to injury. He only has six Serie A appearances thus far where he mustered one goal and one assist.
On the left side of the pitch, Inter already have plenty of players to pick from. This includes Ivan Perisic, Aleksander Kolarov and Federico Dimarco. Perisic is 32-years-old with an expiring contract, Kolarov is 36-years-old and beyond his prime years and although Dimarco is a solid talent at 24-years-old, he is best suited as a substitute for a team of Inter’s stature right now.
Should Perisic remain at Inter this window, Gosens likely takes a back seat to the Croatian. With that being said, Gosens can be slated to be Inter’s primary left-back option for the next four to five years should this move go through.
