Police Visit
Mason Greenwood’s girlfriend, Harriet Robson, has made accusations of assault against the Manchester United player. Police took a statement from Robson who posted the claims on social media site Instagram which ultimately led to the Old Trafford club releasing an official statement;
“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
Initial Reaction
Manchester United had initially responded to the breaking news by saying that they were aware of the images as well as an audio recording;
“We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media. We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”
Instagram Post Deleted
The posts have now been deleted as Greater Manchester Police start to investigate the claims and there has since been a confirmation that a 20-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the allegations. It has now been confirmed via BBC Sport that the man arrested is Mason Greenwood.
Police Statement
The Police acknowledged the reports and stated prior to the arrest that;
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
Sky Sports News reported that they had attempted to contact Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood in reaction to the allegations but no response was received. The Police will now investigate the matter fully but for now one of the Premier League’s most talented stars will not be playing football for the foreseeable future. It should be noted that the claims are allegations at this stage and although an arrest has been made, no charges are known to have been issued.
