Luis Diaz came on as a substitute in the 4th round FA cup tie with Cardiff City. The Colombian didn’t need long to show he means business.
Update on Luis Diaz Injury Scare
Diaz’s Debut Delight
Luis Diaz was named in the squad for the FA Cup match against Cardiff City. The Colombian signed for Liverpool in the January transfer window. The FA Cup is one trophy that Jurgen Klopp is yet to win with Liverpool. Team selection was important, and Klopp’s selection showed that the German was taking every possible opportunity to go all the way. Liverpool last won the FA Cup in 2006.
The Reds were matched for speed and pace by The Bluebirds and the first half ended in deadlock with no goals. After the break Klopp made some changes. Just before the hour mark Diaz came on, replacing Curtis Jones. Within 10 mins a move that started with Diaz ended with the Reds’ second goal.
Diaz was in the thick of it showing why Klopp had wanted to bring the Colombian to England from Porto. It was plain to see why the forward had been the main target for the transfer window, and the Reds got the deal over the line just in time.
In the 83rd minute, however, things changed suddenly. Diaz went down and was holding his knee. The winger and Aden Flint battled for the ball and the Cardiff man accidentally caught his knee. The medics rushed on to assist and concern was audible round the ground. However Diaz was able to finish the match.
In the post match press conference, Klopp provided an update for the concerned fans. “He’s absolutely okay, I don’t think it will be anything serious. Maybe tomorrow he feels it more and we have to react to that but it’s nothing serious.”
Klopp also stated that there is a bruise and a scar and that the teamed joked with Diaz and said “Welcome to England”.
Providing the injury is nothing more serious, the debut by Diaz was an impressive one. Liverpool are in with a shout of claiming the trophy that Klopp is missing from his cabinet.
