Inter Milan Hopeful of Extending Croatian Duo

Inter Milan

Inter Milan are focusing on extending the contracts of Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic, two key Croatian players at the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

“We’re in talks with Brozovic and Perisic to extend their contracts. They want to stay here – and our feeling is the same, we want them to stay,” the club’s CEO Beppe Marotta said to Sky Sports.

The Players and the Club

Perisic is 33-years-old and one of Inter’s most experienced players. He officially joined the club in 2015, although also had a one-year stint at Bayern Munich in between. This season, Perisic has five goals and one assist in 22 league appearances. His best season at Inter was in 2017/18, where he scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in 37 league appearances.

Perisic primarily plays on the left side of Inter’s often used 3-5-2 formation. Although he’s the starter, it remains to be seen what the future holds after Inter’s signing of Robin Gosens. With that being said, Aleksander Kolarov is inching towards the end of his career so Inter likely wants both Gosens and Perisic to remain.

Brozovic, on the other hand, is arguably Inter’s most important midfielder. He’s extremely versatile and plays all over the field. He primarily features as a defensive midfielder but can play most central and attacking roles as well. In short, Brozovic is a Swiss Army Knife of sorts for the club. In addition, he’s also 29-years-old and in his prime years. It’s no surprise to see Inter prioritising a contract renewal for the player.

Inter are also flying back into relevancy. After a couple of down years, they are now the reigning Serie A champions. At the moment they’re second in the league table behind AC Milan. Inter, however, are just one point behind and have a game in hand. They also remain alive in the Champions League, although find themselves with a two-goal deficit against Liverpool.
