Summer Switch
Marco Rose became head coach at Dortmund in the summer of 2021 after leaving his position at Borussia Monchengladbach. Dortmund currently sit second in the Bundesliga behind rivals Bayern Munich by six points but Rose has been subjected to fan criticism, with six defeats not seen as acceptable.
The CEO, however, is happy with the job being done and when asked about his future told Sky Germany: “Yes, because he does a good job, we want to have continuity in that position and we’re happy with him. That’s very simple. We’ve said it often enough.”
Rose Season So Far
When Rose arrived at Dortmund, the expectancy levels were high and these were heightened following a superb opening day win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Erling Haaland was in imperious form but as the winter games approached, Dortmund ended the year with a run of one win in four games and starting to drift away from a title challenge as 2021 came to a close.
They have now closed the gap to six points but performances continue to be erratic which has fuelled speculation that he may be under pressure less than a year after arriving at the club. However, Dortmund have built their success on sustainability and continuity and are a club keen to avoid destabilising the team unless it is deemed absolutely necessary. Watzke has echoed that approach and for now, it seems that there is little danger of Rose being ousted from his post and he will be given time to put his mark on the club.
