Sean Dyche has been sacked as manager of Burnley after a 10-year tenure at Turf Moor. The announcement comes with the Clarets to fight against relegation in their final eight Premier League games of the season.

An Impressive Stint
In a statement released by Burnley it has been confirmed that the club has sacked manager Sean Dyche and a number of his backroom staff. The statement reads:
“Burnley Football Club can confirm the Club has parted company with manager Sean Dyche, assistant manager Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer.
Dyche was the longest-serving manager in the Premier League, having been in charge of the Clarets for nine-and-a-half years, overseeing a period which will go down as one of the most successful in the Club’s history…”
Sean Dyche has managed the team since 2012 and in that time he has transformed the team. He got the club promoted to the Premier League twice and made them into a Premier League mainstay, even qualifying for the Europa League at one point.
For better or worse, Dyche instilled a style of play at the club that made them tough to beat and kept them in the Premier League for far longer than many would have expected.
Relegation Awaits
Burnley are currently in the bottom three with just eight games to go. They are four points adrift of safety with just one league win in their last five games. After a long stint in the Premier League and European football to boot it seems likely that the club will be back in the Championship next season.
Sacking Dyche is somewhat telling. The higher-ups seem to expect relegation and are making plans to move on from the Sean Dyche era to rebuild and get back to the Premier League if possible.
Dyche’s next move will be an interesting one as a number of Premier League teams may want the solidity he offers, but a step back down to the Championship is a possibility.
