News recently emerged about a potential swap deal with Lautaro Martinez and Rodrigo De Paul between Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.
The two Argentinian superstars could swap teams with De Paul returning to Serie A and Martinez finally heading to La Liga, but not to Barcelona.
Lautaro Martinez and Rodrigo De Paul Could Benefit Both Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid
Diego Simeone is Fond of Lautaro Martinez and Inter Milan Are Already Working On His Replacement
As per La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez could be sacrificed to fund other deals in the summer. The club has already found a potential replacement in another Argentinian forward. Paulo Dybala, who will leave Juventus for free, is one of the main targets for the Nerazzurri.
Inter are expecting to receive an offer of around €70 million for the team’s top goalscorer. Lautaro Martinez signed a new contract, so Milan giants feel they could get a good transfer fee. Other targets for the Nerazzurri’s attack are Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo and Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. They all could come at a significantly lower price.
Just as it happened last summer, Inter will need to sell at least one big player. Last year Lukaku and Archaf Hakimi were sacrificed to fix the budget. This year it looks like Lautaro Martinez is the best option as he can be easily replaced with a cheaper option without damaging the quality of the team. The other possible departures could come from the defence or the midfield. However, it will be much more difficult to replace the likes of Milan Škriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, and Nicolo Barella.
In Madrid, Diego Simeone is looking for a new striker and Lautaro Martinez could be ideal for his formation. The forward is used to playing in a two-striker partnership and that is why El Cholo is in love with him. Luis Suarez will leave Madrid in the summer, so this would free a spot for Lautaro Martinez in Atletico Madrid’s attack.
Inter Milan Will Be Looking for At Least One Midfielder During the Summer Transfer Window
On the other hand, Rodrigo De Paul couldn’t quite settle during his first season at Atletico Madrid. The player has been linked to Inter numerous times during his time at Udinese. Unfortunately for Inter, at the time the price was too high. Now, it is reported that Atletico could agree to let the player leave on a loan deal. That would be a great opportunity for Inter as the team looks to make low-cost deals to maintain financial stability.
If De Paul arrives, he is expected to replace Matías Vecino who will leave as a free agent in the summer. Stefano Sensi and Roberto Gagliardini could also part ways with the Nerazzurri if a proper offer arrives. Arturo Vidal is also ready to consider leaving European football. Only Vidal was able to make an impact on Inter’s season from the above-mentioned midfielders. Still, his wage is too big for a player who rarely gets in the starting line-up.
Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, and Hakan Çalhanoğlu had a great season and played almost through the entire campaign. Inter will want to reinforce their midfield and with a lot of their substitutes destined to leave the team. The Nerazzurri will probably try to bring at least two new midfielders in the summer. Rodrigo De Paul might be the perfect option, being able to play in more than one position in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2.
Lautaro Martinez and Rodrigo De Paul Could Also Benefit
Not only could this move benefit Inter and Atletico, but both Lautaro Martinez and Rodrigo De Paul could also benefit.
Both respective moves should bring the best out of each player, working under unique coaches with in their leagues.
