Manchester United Director Quits Key Role

Manchester United Director

Manchester United director of football negotiations Matt Judge has resigned from his position, David Ornstein, of The Athletic, reports.

Judge has played a key role in the club in recent times, being responsible for negotiating contracts for new and current players.

Most recently, he negotiated Erik ten Hag‘s deal as the club’s new manager.

Manchester United Director Leaves Club Ahead of Busy Summer

Summer of Change Continues

Matt Judge is currently working out a notice period at Manchester United prior to his expected departure later in the year. The report states he is not expected to play an active role in the summer transfer window.

Judge is the latest name to leave following the departures of Jim Lawlor and Marcel Bout, who held key scouting positions at the club.

For United, this is a summer of change. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been replaced by Ajax boss Erik ten Hag whilst much of the playing squad are heading for the exit door too.

The plan remains to appoint a new deputy football director to work under John Murtough and help lessen his heavy workload.

Manchester United Intend to Replace Matt Judge

The Telegraph’s James Ducker reports Manchester United are looking to replace Judge soon.

Being heavily involved in transfer negotiations, Judge will need to be replaced promptly ahead of a hectic summer for the Red Devils, who still seek to get somewhere close to the levels rivals Liverpool and Manchester City are setting.

Having been thrashed twice by Liverpool, particularly, this season, United sit 24 and 25 points below Liverpool and City, respectively.

Patrice Evra Comments on Matt Judge

Back in September 2020, United legend Patrice Evra hit out at “certain people” at the club for their “arrogance”.

He particularly named Matt Judge during his rant, saying: “A sporting director from a top football club called me and asked me to tell Matthew Judge to answer his phone.

“The club needs to stop being so arrogant. There are certain people at the club right now that don’t even respect Sir Alex Ferguson.”
