Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is to leave the club at the end of the season. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Belgian international is a top target for three clubs, one being Arsenal.
The Gunners have had internal discussions about Tielemans since January, but the transfer will largely depend on whether Mikel Arteta’s side qualify for the Champions League.
Leicester City Midfielder to Leave in the Summer
Youri Tielemans Will End Three Year Stay at King Power Stadium
Tielemans joined Leicester in summer 2019 from Monaco after a successful loan spell at the King Power Stadium.
The former Anderlecht captain has been a mainstay in Brendan Rodgers midfield, scoring the winning goal in last year’s FA Cup victory over Chelsea.
With a year still remaining on his contract, it is rumoured that Leicester will want around £40 million for Tielemans.
Brendan Rodgers Wants Leicester to Remain Realistic
Speaking to Sky Sports in February, Leicester boss Rodgers admitted that the club needs to be “real” in regards to players leaving the club, he said: “We are real as a football club.
“You’ll get people asking if we can hang on to these players for the next six or seven years but the reality is that if a player does really well at Leicester, he may want to leave and move on to another club.
“For us, it’s just about being ready for that.
“I believe that when I came into here there was a group of players who were hungry and wanted to prove themselves. We’ve lost two of those in Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell but the team have continued to progress.
“From that point, we’ve won the FA Cup and the players are now in better conditions in their lives which is great. They deserve that, but you’ve got to keep improving.
“You’ve got to keep developing but we’ve not been able to freshen up the team. We’ve improved the squad, there’s no doubt about that, but we have to improve the team.”
With Tielemans set to depart, Leicester fans will be keen to see the money received for the Belgian reinvested into the side.
The Foxes have had a difficult domestic season with Rodgers’ side in 14th spot with 42 points. They also missed out on a place in the Europa Conference League final with defeat against Roma.
