Thomas Tuchel Confirms Andreas Christensen Exit

Andreas Christensen

Over the past few months, Andreas Christensen has been linked with a move away from Chelsea. Christensen, along with Antonio Rudiger, were both linked with moves to Spain and based on comments from Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, Christensen will be joining Rudiger in exiting the club this summer. Tuchel simply commented “We’re losing him” in regards to Christensen. According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal was done weeks ago on Barcelona’s end, and Christensen has already signed.

Andreas Christensen Will Play for Barcelona Next Season

Long Time Servant

Andreas Christensen has been with Chelsea since 2012 and was one of the few young players who used the infamous Chelsea loan army to his advantage. After failing to break into the team in the 2014/15 season, the Danish defender went to Borussia Monchengladbach on loan for two seasons. Christensen was a consistent feature in the Monchengladbach side for his time there and impressed enough to earn a spot in the Chelsea team upon returning to the club.

He’s had a hot and cold time since then with some managers, such as Maurizio Sarri, not considering him first-team quality but he stuck it out and made 161 appearances for Chelsea in total, 93 of which were in the Premier League.

Wantaway

While Antonio Rudiger has handled his Chelsea exit with the utmost class, Christensen’s is sure to leave a sour taste in the mouth of fans. Not only is he joining Chelsea rival Barcelona but his decision to leave the squad ahead of the FA Cup final brings his desire to play for the team into question. After fighting to earn a spot in the team it seems that Christensen is limping towards the finish with his heart already in Barcelona.

One positive of this is that young Trevoh Chalobah is getting much-needed game time and big match experience with the club currently low on defenders.
