Jurriën Timber Comments Outline What Manchester United Need To Do
What Was Said
Speaking to De Telegraaf, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, Timber said: “Of course, I can still develop myself at Ajax, I am 100 per cent sure of that. I don’t have the feeling that I am done at this club…but I can develop myself at other clubs, too.
He added: “My feeling will decide my decision. The picture has to be perfect. You could move to a big club, but you do want to play.
“If you won’t play, it would be better to stay at Ajax. Ajax is also a huge club, we play Champions League football”.
It is clear that the 20-year-old is seeking first-team football. After all, the defender played 43 times this season as Ajax secured the Eredivisie title.
Not only that, a stay in Amsterdam would present Timber with another season of Champions League football. A move to Manchester United would leave the Dutchman playing in the Europa League.
What Manchester United Need
New manager Erik ten Hag, who has obviously just arrived after working with Timber, is looking for a centre-back that can also play at right-back. The Dutchman ticks both boxes.
The new head coach has made this a priority position to be addressed in the summer transfer window.
Ten Hag is looking to strengthen in both areas after making Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Aaron Wan-Bissaka available for transfer.
Of course, there are other areas of the pitch that Manchester United need to strengthen but the former Ajax boss has made Timber a key target as the summer transfer window fast approaches.
