Liverpool are set to complete a massive deal for Manchester United target, Darwin Nunez. Fabrizio Romano has blessed fans with those three famous words: Here we go. A verbal agreement has been reached between the two clubs, with just the paperwork to sign after Liverpool moved in and swiftly completed the transfer ahead of United.
Benfica recently received an official €100 million bid from Liverpool, also reported by Romano. The Uruguayan striker has been linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United after scoring 34 times for Benfica this season and will sign with the former on a long-term deal.
Liverpool to Complete Darwin Nunez Deal as Manchester United Watch On
The Breakdown of the Deal
Darwin Nunez is set to join Benfica on a five-year contract. The deal will cost Liverpool €80 million plus €20 million in add-ons, but many would argue that it is worth the expensive price tag as the Uruguayan could be an important part of the team at Anfield for the next decade

The striker scored twice against the Reds in the Champions League knockouts this season and impressed Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy.

With Liverpool set to lose Sadio Mane this summer and potentially Mohamed Salah after next season, a deal for a young, clinical striker seems justified. It will be Liverpool’s recording signing if a deal goes through, surpassing the current record of £75 million for Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool’s Joy; United’s Despair
Manchester United have been in contact with Nunez’s agent for some time. There had been reports that manager Erik ten Hag had met with Nunez and his officials but they are now known to be false. Manchester United’s transfer priorities most likely lie elsewhere, with Frenkie de Jong heavily linked.

It is probable, though, that given the choice, the 22-year-old would choose Anfield over Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag and Manchester United want to bring in a striker to challenge and eventually replace star man Cristiano Ronaldo but spending the best part of £100 million on a backup seems ludicrous.
