After many years of fighting off relegation against the odds, Burnley have finally faced the drop. It was a very impressive run which was mostly under the stewardship of Sean Dyche. The Englishman faced the sack in the latter stages of last season and the club have since announced his successor. In quite a change of style, Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany is the man for the job, as per the club’s Twitter account.

Does the Manchester City Legend Have the Nous for the Championship?
Not only will the pair surely have very different ideas for on the pitch, but Dyche and the City legend that is Kompany come from different stock. The former is experienced in and around the Championship and English football in general. Meanwhile, Kompany has very little managerial experience to his name.

Kompany’s only prior experience in the technical area is in his home country of Belgium. After originally joining Anderlecht as a player-coach, the defender then moved into a purely managerial role. From his time there, between August of 2020 and June of 2022, he boasted a 45.65% win rate.
He was part of that iconic Sergio Aguero moment that won City the title with a last gasp effort. Kompany then scored a mouth-watering and equally important goal himself, firing home from distance beyond Kasper Schmeichel to win a major game in the run-in. It prompted that famous line from Gary Neville: “Where do you want your statue Vincent Kompany?” That is exactly what he has now, a statue of Kompany being unveiled alongside fellow City legend David Silva.
Was Sean Dyche’s Dismissal the Correct Decision?
In comparison to the record of Kompany, Dyche won 35.1% of his games over a 10 year period for the Clarets. Dyche worked wonders at Turf Moor on a shoestring budget in comparison to the other top-flight teams. Many fans and neutrals unlike were taken aback by the Englishman’s dismissal.
That is neither here nor there with the decision having been made a few months ago. In his absence, it was Mike Jackson that stepped in on an interim basis and despite providing a huge upturn in results, they were unable to avoid the drop.
Dyche’s dismissal may still be shrouded in controversy but attentions can now turn to Kompany. This could be a true baptism of fire for the Belgian – it is early in his managerial career but it could make or break his reputation in English football.
