Liverpool have been quick off the mark in this transfer window, immediately picking up Darwin Nunez from Benfica and now, according to reports, will secure another young star: Calvin Ramsay. Unlike the huge money paid for Nunez, Ramsay is going to cost a reported £6.5 million, with this fee potentially being a bargain for a player considered one of the best youngsters in Europe
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the deal for the Scottish fullback is almost done, saying “Liverpool are set to sign Scottish fullback Calvin Ramsay, done deal. Official bid submitted last week has been accepted by Aberdeen after changes on add-ons structure…. Ramsay will sign until June 2027, as he agreed personal terms one week ago. Done and sealed.”

The 18-year-old Scottish right-back had a breakout season in the Scottish Premiership, making 33 appearances across all competitions. His performances earned him the SFWA Young Player of The Year award as well as interest from major clubs across Europe.
Ramsay’s own manager Jim Goodwin went as far as to label the youngster as one of the best young full-backs in all of football and seemed resigned to losing the award-winning teenager.
Fresh Competition
Liverpool already have a young first-choice right-back in English star Trent Alexander-Arnold who is still just 23. The Reds seemingly view the Scottish teen as a long-term rival for Alexander-Arnold’s spot in the team with both players having a very similar style of play on the right-hand side, specialising in attack while also providing solidity in defence.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be aiming to compete for all domestic trophies as well as in Europe this coming season, and with that glut of games on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how much playing time Ramsay is afforded by the manager.
