Manchester United are strong admirers of left-back Tyrell Malacia and could move for the Feyenoord Prospect, according to reports from Jonathan Shrager. Following the arrival of Erik ten Hag, the club are anticipating a dramatic rebuild following a poor season with the left-back position in particular identified as an area to improve.
It is believed that the Old Trafford club will target the talented youngster once a deal for Frenkie De Jong is finalised but face competition from Lyon who are also intent on landing the Dutchman.

Area for Improvement
When the Red Devils end their pursuit of Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona, either in success or failure, they can turn their attention to other transfer targets which they believe will strengthen their squad before the new season. One of these has emerged as the 22-year-old Malacia.

The left-back position has lacked consistency for United in previous seasons and with Ten Hag looking to strengthen his backline this summer the signing of Malacia could provide an injection of energy and tenacity into that position which has been missing recently. He has been described as a “modern” fullback who is “very difficult to beat”, seemingly providing the best of both worlds in the position.

Luke Shaw’s season was hindered by injury and underwhelming performances were rife across the squad as a whole. Alex Telles was also unable to perform last campaign with his defensive skills having been demonstrated to be in severe deficit.
At the age of 22 years old, Malacia has established himself as a regular name in Feyenoord’s starting eleven after breaking through the club’s academy and helping them to a third-place finish in the Eredivisie. The position secured Europa League football for the upcoming season having reached the final of this year’s Europa Conference League where they were defeated by Roma.
In the Eredivisie last campaign, Malacia managed one goal and four assists in 30 appearances from left-back and also has five senior caps to his name with the Netherlands.
If United can get a deal finalised for De Jong and move on to other transfer targets quickly, they may be able to fend off the interest from Lyon, especially with the prospect of Ten Hag working with his compatriot and possibly providing a long-term solution to Manchester United’s full-back problem.
