AC Milan Are Missing Out on Argentine Talent

AC Milan are missing out on Argentine up-and-coming talent Enzo Fernandez as Benfica are finalizing a move for the player, according to Fabrizio Romano. Benfica and River Plate have agreed on a deal for €18 million and are working on contract details. Milan showed heavy interest in Fernandez but are now set to miss out.

A Midfield Hole

First and foremost, Milan must address a hole in their midfield. Franck Kessie, who’s long been the club’s midfield star, is heading to Barcelona. This leaves Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer as the starting options in manager Stefano Pioli’s preferred midfield double pivot. Although this remains a solid duo, with Tonali becoming a star this past season, the Rossoneri need more options.

The option off the bench now is Rade Krunic. Due to Milan’s lack of depth in the attacking midfield department, Krunic often plays a more advanced role. Milan will also possibly have Yacine Adli next season, should he not remain at Bordeaux on loan. The same goes for Tommaso Pobega with Torino. With that being said, Milan hope to have more options to repeat their Serie A title as well as compete in the Champions League.

At one point, the Rossoneri looked like the definite move for Renato Sanches out of Lille. Now, Paris Saint-Germain is moving for him. Like Fernandez, Milan may miss out on Sanches. Another player Milan are showing interest in, Charles De Ketelaere, is now being pursued by Leeds United.

Fernandez would’ve been a stellar fit for Milan due to both his age and playing style, but Milan waited too long. The club cannot allow this to be a trend throughout this summer’s transfer market.
