Dean Henderson Completes Loan Transfer to Nottingham Forest

Manchester United Goalkeeper Joins Reds

Henderson, 25, moves to Forest on a loan deal for the whole season and becomes their first signing since they won promotion into the Premier League.

Reds boss Steve Cooper is looking to build a squad capable of competing in the top flight and has made a strong statement with the transfer addition of Dean Henderson.

Forest are in need of a goalkeeper after current first-choice option Brice Samba rejected the offer of an extended contract and reluctantly told the East Midlands outfit that he would like to leave this summer. They have captured a more than suitable replacement in Henderson though given the 25-year-old has experience in joining teams likely to be competing in the bottom half of the Premier League.

The talented shot-stopper counts Sheffield United as one of his former employers having enjoyed two years on loan with them between 2018 and 2020. During that time he helped the Blades win promotion into the Premier League and then record a ninth-place finish in the top flight.

Samba’s contract rejection came as a surprise to Forest fans given his popularity and status on the terraces. The former Caen ‘keeper has been at the City Ground since the summer of 2019 and has made more than 100 appearances for the Reds, including 45 across all competitions last term.

It is not yet known, however, whether an option or obligation to buy clause has been included as part of the transfer – which could have huge implications on the rest of Forest’s transfer activities.
