Nottingham Forest Star is Set to Sign a New Contract With the Club

Nottingham Forest star

Upon gaining promotion back to the promised land, it has been a surprisingly rough few months for fans of Nottingham Forest. A few key players will not be back playing in the famous red this season coming. One Nottingham Forest star though, in the form of Brennan Johnson, as per John Percy, is on the verge of signing a new contract.

Nottingham Forest Star is Here to Stay

Brennan Johnson is a Shining Light

It goes without saying that Brennan Johnson was a Nottingham Forest star under Steve Cooper last season. Alongside the likes of Brice Samba, Djed Spence and James Garner, the Welshman was key to their resurgence and eventual success. His new contract that is looming is a welcome sigh of relief for those at the City Ground given the negativity thus far.

Goalkeeper Samba is on his way out of the club whilst Spence and Garner are loanees who may well not return to Nottingham. Also, Keinan Davis has returned to Aston Villa and Danish winger Philip Zinckernagel has joined Greek outfit Olympiacos. Cooper has a huge job on his hands if Forest are to remain in the Premier League.

This is a “huge boost for Forest as there has been interest from other Premier League clubs”, in the words of John Percy, and teams chasing the Welshman has been heavily trodden ground in the media. West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United were all mentioned in the conversation when it came to the future of the Nottingham Forest star.

Such interest seems to be a thing of the past now though, or even one for the future, with a new contract on the table. Brennan, son of Forest legend David Johnson, was at the heart of their success when it came to booking a long-awaited return to the English top-flight.

Just How Good is Johnson?

As previously mentioned, it has been a rough start to life in the Premier League for Steve Cooper and co. It seems unlikely that a number of loan moves will be made permanent whilst a couple of important individuals have been sold. This makes the presence of Brennan Johnson, as well as Joe Worrall and Ryan Yates, all the more integral.

At just 21, the Nottingham Forest star netted 18 times in the Championship as well as chipping in with ten assists. On top of that, he earned a call-up to the Wales set-up thanks to Robert Page and he repaid this faith, scoring twice in less than 200 minutes of Nations League action. It is safe to say that Johnson could tear up the Premier League given the chance. This new contract is a huge bonus for all involved with Forest, particularly Johnson himself.
