AC Milan Winger Set to Be Signed Permanently

AC Milan winger Junior Messias is set to be permanently signed by the club, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Messias arrived last season on loan from Crotone and carved out a place in the squad. Milan will pay £3.8 million (€4.5 million) to retain his services, which is lower than the original asking price of £4.6 million (€5.4 million).

AC Milan Winger to Remain Onboard

A Steady Piece

Messias isn’t the flashiest player. He won’t put up stellar goal-scoring or assist numbers, but he remains an overall very solid depth piece. Last season, Messias scored five goals and provided two assists in 26 Serie A appearances. He also scored and assisted once in five Champions League appearances. The right-wing position for the Rossoneri was a constant battle all season long between Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers.

Before arriving in Milan, Messias scored nine goals in 36 appearances for Crotone in 2020/21. Due to Messias’ age and the lack of stellar numbers, his original loan to Milan wasn’t met with much excitement. The Brazilian proved, however, that he can offer creativity, flair, and goal scoring.

This move doesn’t mean that Milan are finished upgrading the attacking department, however.

Reinforcements are being closely monitored as they are sorely needed. In addition, Zlatan Ibrahimovic just extended his contract with the club. The Swede will miss the first few months of the season due to injury, but he’ll play a role upon his return. Milan also brought in Divock Origi. Finally, the club made a major move in extending the contract of director Paolo Maldini. He’s proven his ability to make shrewd moves in the transfer market, so one would expect more to come soon.
