Manchester United’s pursuit of Martínez continues after the club’s initial bid of £37 million for the defender was rejected, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. Now United are ready to try again, preparing to meet with Ajax on Wednesday to proceed with the negotiations. Ajax are said to be willing to sell Martínez subject to the conditions being met. Having spent his young senior career in Argentina and the Netherlands, the defender now wants to try his craft in England’s Premier League.
Argentina and Ajax are so famous for their offensive football traditions that it can be easy to neglect the defenders they produce. It wasn’t a superb striker like Sebastien Haller that won the most recent Ajax Player of the Year Award. Rather, it was Martínez. Additionally, the 24-year-old got into the Argentinian squad that won the most recent Copa America. In fairness, he was on the bench and didn’t play. Still, the mere fact that he managed to get into that Albiceleste squad indicates how good he is.

Manchester United’s Healthy Obsession With Ajax
Manchester United have appeared borderline obsessed with Ajax this transfer window, having pursued several players from the Dutch club. Some attempts being more successful than others. However, since Ajax is a superb team renowned for creating and nurturing talent, this ‘obsession’ can be considered healthy and isn’t exactly odd.
In fact, it’s especially reasonable since the new United boss Erik ten Hag used to manage Ajax and thus already has previous experience with his transfer targets, which undoubtedly is an advantage should they join.
