Australian International Close to ‘Dream’ Celtic Move

Aaron Mooy

Aaron Mooy is set to move to Celtic as a free agent, reports Mike McGrath. This is at the expense of multiple Championship clubs who were also interested in the midfielder. The move will see Mooy reunite with fellow Australian Ange Postecoglou.

Back to Europe

In 2020, Aaron Mooy left Brighton & Hove Albion for Shanghai Port. However, now Mooy is set to move back to Europe, as the Australian has departed from the Chinese Super League side to return to his family in Scotland.

At Celtic, the 31-year-old will reunite with his former national team boss, Ange Postecoglou.

A Solid Career

Aaron Mooy’s youth career started with the Carlingford Redbacks and the New South Wales Institute of Sport, which was followed by his first move abroad to Bolton Wanderers. After four seasons, Mooy left the Premier League club for St Mirren in 2010 to get more playing time.

The midfielder then returned to Australia and joined Western Sydney Wanderers, where he spent two seasons. It was also around this time that Mooy played his first senior matches and scored his first senior goals for the national team.

The Australian’s next move was domestic as he joined Melbourne City in 2014. Two years later, though, he made a return to England, signing for Manchester City – one of Melbourne’s sister clubs in the City Football Group.

The midfielder didn’t get any playing time for The Sky Blues, being instantly loaned out to Huddersfield Town. However, it ended up being a success, and the Terriers signed him permanently upon their promotion to the Premier League in 2017 via the Championship play-offs.

History then repeated itself two years later, as Brighton signed Mooy from Huddersfield permanently after a loan spell following the Terriers’ relegation from the top flight.
