The Italian was once viewed as the next great Milan goalkeeping product behind Gianluigi Donnarumma who ultimately left for Paris Saint-Germain. Plizzari was such a coveted prospect that Manchester City approached Milan for his services in 2017 as well.

The Current AC Milan Goalkeeping Situation
Many may have thought that Donnarumma leaving Milan last summer meant doom for the goalkeeping position. That, of course, didn’t end up happening. Mike Maignan arrived from Lille and outperformed all expectations. In fact, Maignan was awarded the Serie A Goalkeeper of the Season. The Frenchman is just turned 27 years old, so he’s approaching his prime. He’s set to be Milan’s starting goalkeeper for the foreseeable future while potentially challenging for the French National Team starting spot after Hugo Lloris eventually hangs up national team boots.

Ciprian Tatarusanu is the first option off the bench. The Romanian stepped in last season when Maignan was injured and performed decently. He had previous Serie A experience with Fiorentina prior to joining Milan in 2020, so he remains a solid depth option. Antonio Mirante is also still in the squad. He was signed last season went Maignan went down to provide insurance behind Tatarusanu. Mirante holds plenty of experience as well, namely with Parma and AS Roma.
Milan’s back-up options are 36 and 39 years old, respectively. This is enough depth for this season, but in the future Milan will need to invest in different options behind Maignan.
