Marcus Tavernier Set to Become Bournemouth’s Third Summer Signing
Marcus Tavernier looks set to leave Championship club Middlesbrough and head to the South Coast for Premier League football with Bournemouth. Should the midfielder sign he would become the Cherries third signing of the summer and the first where a transfer fee has been involved.
Bournemouth manager Scott Parker has added midfielder Joe Rothwell and defender Ryan Fredericks to his squad from Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United respectively. Both players arrived on free transfers.
Leeds-born Tavernier joined Middlesbrough at under-14 level before rising through their academy and reaching the first team. The 23-year-old has played 153 games in all competitions scoring 18 goals.
The versatile midfielder has been mainly used in central midfield at Boro; however, he can play in a number of positions across the midfield and this versatility could be vital to Scott Parker during the long season ahead.
Losing Players Is Part of Football
Speaking after the recent friendly against Marseille, Boro boss Chris Wilder spoke to Teeside Live with regards to Tavernier’s future. He said: “I said today in an interview that Liverpool lost Mane and they weren’t expecting to. Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, their board, would not have expected to lose their best player.
“Their best player went and they had to replace him. You just have to realise that this is football and anybody can go at any time during a window.”
