Manchester United have not had the best time of it during the summer transfer window of 2022. Now, a reported major midfield target of theirs, Fabian Ruiz, is set to move to Paris Saint Germain.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Ruiz’s move to the French capital is part of PSG football advisor Luis Campos’s secret plan: negotiations with the Spanish international have been ongoing for weeks. He anticipated that a number of top clubs would be interested in making this signing when Ruiz’s contract expires next summer, so quickly swooped in and secured his man. A “here we go” from Romano can be expected soon as the deal nears completion.

Manchester United in Trouble
The Red Devils are in a difficult situation with regards to their midfield at the moment.
They have spent much of the summer chasing Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona. This deal is extremely complicated, as the dutchman would rather stay with the Catalan giants, and with United’s lack of Champions League football to offer they aren’t an incredibly enticing option. Moreover, with Chelsea now reportedly firming up their interest, it could be even more difficult for Erik ten Hag to convince his former player to join up with him again.
United’s current options in the middle of the park are not ideal by any stretch of the imagination either.
Fred, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek, and James Garner are the four central midfielders on whom Ten Hag can call this season.

The former two have been the regular double pivot for United over recent seasons, but have not been overly successful.
Van de Beek has, though, had an even worse time, struggling to adapt to the Premier League both at Old Trafford and on loan with Everton.
Garner is a more interesting prospect, but with no Premier League starts to his name during his career, it seems risky to rely on him to provide some creativity in the midfield.
