An Important Piece
Tomori is crucial to Milan. He shines time and time again as the squad’s top defender. Milan’s victorious Serie A campaign last season was spearheaded by the defence which was tied for the best in the league with Napoli. Milan conceded 31 goals in 38 matches, which was an incredible feat.
The Rossoneri made it a mission to upgrade their attack with the signings of Divock Origi from Liverpool and Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge. That needed to be done as Milan were outscored in Serie A by a couple of teams.

With that being said, Milan knows their identity is their defence. Tomori, of course, is a major part of this so keeping him is key. Other rivals have added upgrades to their attacking departments, such as Romelu Lukaku to Inter, Filip Kostic to Juventus, and Paulo Dybala to AS Roma. Serie A will be flooded with attacking talent, but Milan will once again attempt to boast the league’s top defence with Tomori in the middle.

Milan’s starting defence should mirror the group that ended last season together. Tomori will join Pierre Kalulu in the middle while Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria man the flanks. Star goalkeeper Mike Maignan will retain his spot in between the posts.
