Despite their considerable funds and dreams of Champions League glory, Paris Saint-Germain have had a surprisingly low-key transfer window. The arrivals of Vitinha from FC Porto, as well as Ligue 1 duo Renato Sanches and Hugo Ekitike currently stand as the only incomings at the Parc des Princes. This trend of more restrained and measured transfer spending looks to be continuing as the reigning Ligue 1 champions look close to completing the signing of Manchester United target and Napoli midfielder, Fabian Ruiz, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Paris Saint-Germain Set to Land the Napoli Midfielder
PSG have focused on strengthening their midfield following the signing of two former Premier League loanees, Vitinha and Renato Sanches. The former was with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020/21 whilst the latter spent a tough year in Swansea during the 2017/18 season.
Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz is now the next man under the microscope. He has long since been linked with a move away from the Serie A with Manchester United and PSG at the fore of this, with the former identifying the Spain international as an alternative to Frenkie de Jong. It appears that United could miss out on another target as Romano stated: “Fabián Ruíz has confirmed to Paris Saint-Germain his intention to sign a five-year deal”, with a fee still being discussed between the two clubs.
A number of the PSG midfielders are ageing out Ander Herrera and Idrissa Gueye both at 32, plus Marco Verratti is on the verge of reaching 30 himself. Ruiz, who is 26 years old, along with the aforementioned duo of Vitinha and Sanches will bring some life and resurgence to the centre of the park. New manager Christophe Galtier, who lifted the Ligue 1 with Lille at the end of the 2020/21 season, is less of a flashy name in the technical area and that is filtering down the player pool too now.

A Tough Window In Naples
Fabian Ruiz departing the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium is just the tip of the iceberg. Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly has joined Chelsea whilst experienced double act Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens have moved on to pastures new. Insigne has made the move to MLS to play for Toronto FC whilst the Belgian forward will now play for Galatasaray.
There is a rebuild incoming under the stewardship of Luciano Spalletti and this will continue to be the case if the Napoli midfielder does move to Paris. There is yet to be a notable arrival in the middle of the park besides loanee Andre Zambo Anguissa, who was signed permanently following his loan from Fulham.
