Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Edouard Michut has joined Sunderland according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal is an initial loan move with the Black Cats having the option to buy the 19-year-old for around £5 million.
The central midfielder who can also play further forward has not featured for PSG this season under their new manager Christophe Galtier. The player did however feature for the first team last season as they won the league title.

Edouard Michut at the Stadium of Light for Saturday’s Game
According to Fabrizio, Michut was present at the Stadium of Light on Saturday as his new team faced Norwich City. Despite the Black Cats suffering a 1-0 defeat to the Canaries, he will have been impressed by how his new club performed under difficult circumstances.
Head coach Alex Neil decided to quit the club just 24 hours before the game and is expected to take over at Championship rivals Stoke City.
Michut who has represented France at youth level is highly rated and just last year signed an extension to stay at PSG until 2025. However, should the initial loan move work out, he could move to Sunderland permanently long before 2025.
Black Cats Win Race for Edouard Michut
According to Joe Nicholson of the Sunderland Echo, Celtic were also keen on the talented midfielder. The Scottish giants reportedly bid £2 million for the player; however, the fee wanted by PSG was deemed too much for boss Ange Postecoglou. The Celtic manager said: “Yeah, good player, but no. I have an interest in every good footballer in the world, but there is a limited market I can tap into.”
Agent and Former Coach Full of Praise for Michut
Michut’s former coach, Jordy Cabarrecq and agent Philippe Lamboley were full of praise for the youngster. Speaking to Goal.com Cabarrecq said: “He already had a way of thinking about the game that the others didn’t have, and a quick understanding of instructions,” Cabarrecq says. “He always had a good first touch, moved in areas where he could touch the ball but also an ability to eliminate and break lines.”
His agent added: “In his life everything is geared towards football. He is a young man who eats well, who pays attention to his sleep, who works outside training and who even has a gym at home. He does everything he can to succeed.”
