According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United‘s next main transfer target, Martin Dubravka, is “doing an Antony” and trying to force a move. The Red Devils have made a bid for the Newcastle United goalkeeper, who is seeking a move away from Saint James’ Park after losing the number one position to Nick Pope.

What Does ‘Doing an Antony’ Mean?
This term specifically refers to the way that the Brazilian winger forced a move from Ajax to Manchester United. This included not training with the group, making including him in matchday plans even more difficult for a manager. The more difficult a player makes picking him, the less use he is at a club. Once a player wants a move and starts taking direct action like this, retaining their services is far more difficult. The Slovakian goalkeeper has taken his first steps in forcing a move south to Manchester.
Why is Martin Dubravka Considering a Move?
Martin Dubravka has a few reasons to consider a move. The first of which is limited time in the squad at Newcastle. The Magpies’ new Saudi ownership is investing heavily in the squad, including in goalkeeper Nick Pope. Therefore, in spite of strong results last season Dubravka finds himself without any minutes.
Perhaps the goalkeeper senses weakness in the existing Old Trafford number one, David de Gea. The usually reliable goalkeeper is dipping in form and struggling with his distribution. The Slovakian goalkeeper could sense an opportunity. His interest in the Carrington outfit is clear, as Newcastle United’s goalkeeper already has personal terms in place with Manchester United.

Will Newcastle United Accept?
On the contrary to the Antony situation, getting an agreement from the Magpies seems far easier for Manchester United. The Slovakian goalkeeper is no longer a necessity in the North East and was even behind Mark Gillespie and Karl Darlow in the hierarchy for the recent Carabao Cup match at Tranmere Rovers.
Martin Dubravka wants the move, the Old Trafford hierarchy want the move and Eddie Howe has no need for the player. It may be a more simple one for United to wrap up.
