Manchester United will travel to the King Power Stadium on Thursday, September 1 to take on bottom-of-the-table Leicester City, who are still seeking their first win of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Red Devils are on the back of two consecutive wins over Liverpool and Southampton. They picked up their first clean sheet of the season at Saint Mary’s Stadium with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez displaying another stellar performance together in central defence.

Manchester United Team News: Victor Lindelof Returns From Injury, Anthony Martial Sidelined

He Has Missed All Four Opening Games

The ‘Iceman’ Victor Lindelof may be available for selection for United’s midweek clash after missing all four opening games through injury. He has only trained once with his teammates, but a spell on the pitch against the most out-of-form side in the league could help build up the Sweden international’s confidence and fitness.

Like any other top six side in England, United face a packed schedule over the coming weeks; after Leicester, they face a crucial clash with rivals Arsenal – the only side to have won all of their games so far and maintain a perfect record. The Reds then kick-off their Europa League campaign on September 8 against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford before travelling to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace.

Whilst Martinez and Varane have looked like an undroppable pairing in the last two games, utilising both Lindelof and club captain Harry Maguire could help the defenders with the strain and fatigue they’ll likely face in the club’s upcoming flurry of games.

Cristiano Ronaldo Stays, Anthony Martial Faces Injury Setback

The summer transfer window has sparked a lot of speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and his future as a United player. Ronaldo was adamant on leaving the Manchester side in the search for Champions League football but is set to stay at Old Trafford after being unable to find a suitable move away. His mood has reportedly improved since coming to terms with his situation this season.

The Portugal captain started the previous two matches on the substitute bench for the Reds, as Erik ten Hag had opted for a front three of Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga and Marcus Rashford – which paid off against Liverpool, as the two Englishmen secured the win with their impressive goals.

Martial Showed Promising Signs Against Liverpool

Anthony Martial came off the bench to replace Elanga at half-time and the Frenchman showed his fine footwork to assist Rashford and make it 2-0. The 26-year-old was United’s most in-form player in pre-season and looked an entirely different player against Jurgen Klopp’s side compared to the lacklustre forward witnessed last season.

With Ten Hag seemingly preferring Ronaldo to take a stint on the bench each game, it provides a real chance for Martial to prove himself and make the striker position his own again. Unfortunately, the forward will miss the fixture against Leicester with an achilles injury.

United Bolster Squad With Two More Signings

New signing Casemiro featured against Southampton for a ten-minute cameo, as the Brazilian aims to adjust to life in the Premier League. He is fit to face the Foxes on Thursday, however, it’s unknown whether Ten Hag will deploy the 30-year-old in the starting lineup.
