Manchester United looked set to swoop in for the forward whom new manager Erik ten Hag holds in very high regard from his days in Holland. The Red Devils eventually completed the signing of main target Antony from Ajax. This meant that any further business for Gakpo was now unlikely.
Since United pull out from the transfer, several Premier League clubs have explored the possibility of a deal for the electric left winger. The most prominent and advanced deals being that of Southampton and Leeds United.
Southampton were also reported to have agreed a deal with PSV for the player but after wide consultations with the player’s camp. The Eredivisie club has decided to keep the player.
