Gomes Completes Dramatic Last-Minute Switch to Ligue 1 Club
The Portuguese midfielder will spend the remainder of this campaign in France, where he’ll aim to help the Ligue 1 side compete with Paris Saint-Germain for the league title. This will mark Gomes’ first stint in the French top division after having played in the top leagues in England, Portugal and Spain during his professional career.

Gomes had not made a single appearance for the blue half of Merseyside this campaign, with Frank Lampard feeling it was best to loan him out with the hope he can secure regular first-team football.
Everton’s Dramatic Transfer Window Recapped
After barely surviving relegation from the Premier League last season and starting this campaign poorly, the Toffees were alert in this transfer window. Frank Lampard’s team have made eight new signings to bolster their squad, including midfielder Amadou Onana.
They also signed midfielder Garner from Manchester United to add more steel to the centre of the park, as well as bringing back former player Idrissa Gueye from PSG on a permanent basis. On top of that, Everton also signed players with Premier League experience – bringing in Brighton & Hove Albion striker Neil Maupey and ex-Burnley winger Dwight McNeil.

Lampard also did smart business by signing former Burnley defender James Tarkowski on a free transfer, as well as former Wolves duo Conor Coady and Ruben Vinagre on loan to strengthen his backline. Everton also sold Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur for £60 million to improve their budget, in addition to loaning out six players.

One of those players is Gomes, who despite having made 100 appearances for the Blues and coming in as an ex-Barcelona player, he has a mountain to climb if he wants to ever return as a regular player at Goodison Park.
