Chelsea have announced that Armando Broja has signed a new six-year contract that will keep him at the club until at least 2028. This is is likely to guarantee him a bigger role in Thomas Tuchel’s side going forward.

The Albanian international is highly admired among those at Stamford Bridge, which is why new owner Todd Boehly fast-tracked his contract extension process. After ensuring that Broja signed a new long-term deal with the club, the American businessman couldn’t hold back his happiness.
He said: “We are delighted Armando has committed to Chelsea. He is a young and exciting striker and a big part of our plans moving forward.”
Broja himself also spoke on the extension, saying: “I’m lost for words really just thinking about it. It’s the club I’ve dreamed of playing for my whole life, the club that I support and the club that I love. I’ve been here since I was a boy so it’s a surreal feeling for me and my family.”

The 20-year-old striker still has a long way to go in his career but has impressed those with the London club with his heroics from the last few seasons. He has been especially admirable on loan in recent years and even scored nine goals in 38 appearances for Southampton last season.
This contract might come off as a surprise for some as Broja was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer. West Ham United even made a formidable bid to sign him, but Chelsea resisted a sale and have now secured his services for many years.
Broja Set to Face Heavy Competition in Thomas Tuchel’s Side
Even after having signed such a lucrative long-term contract, the Albanian forward is unlikely to be a stalwart part of Tuchel’s squad going forward. In fact, the 20-year-old can actually expect a lot of heavy competition from other players – including new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyag.
Indeed, the Gabonese striker has assumed the no.9 kit at Stamford Bridge and is well aware of how to play under Thomas Tuchel – having played under him at Borussia Dortmund. Kai Havertz keeps on being played in the no.9 position, while the German gaffer also has the chance to play Raheem Sterling as a sole forward if needed.

That is why it’ll take something truly special for Broja to be the undisputed centre-forward for the Blues. The physical striker has the qualities to do so and the character to thrive under the pressure at Chelsea too.
Broja was described as ‘devastating’ in between the spaces by the assistant manager of the Albanian national team Sergio Porrini earlier this year and has that taste for goals too. He’ll have to maintain a high level of consistency to win over Tuchel and lead the line for Chelsea for many years to come.
