One of the more high-profile transfer sagas of a summer that involved plenty was the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer rumours. However, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner staying at Manchester United, it all amounted to nothing and now Fabrizio Romano has revealed the truths and the lies via his YouTube channel.

The Truths and the Lies of the Transfer Saga
The crazy summer transfer window had a lot of never-ending stories, from the Frenkie De Jong transfer saga to the Cristiano Ronaldo soap opera.
After a humiliating 4-0 loss to Brentford, The Athletic reported that the 37-year-old ate his lunch alone in the canteen at Carrington and had been seen flapping his arms about in training and attempting to argue against the high-pressing approach favoured by the new manager.
Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News reported earlier in the season that: “Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to leave has also contributed to a fraught atmosphere in the first-team squad, with some teammates hopeful he will leave as they believe the atmosphere would improve.”
These reports were followed by a couple of other discerning views from all around the football world, and the player was subsequently relegated to the bench by Erik ten Hag after the Brentford humiliation.
Fabrizio Romano has now debunked most of the stories over the summer. The Italian transfer market expert stated on his YouTube channel: “I would like to deny the biggest fake news that we had for a long time this summer, we had many stories, especially in August, about Cristiano Ronaldo creating problems with the players, having some issues with Erik ten Hag, not being happy being on the bench and some other decisions by the manager.”
“After checking with different sources both on the player’s side and on the club’s side, the feeling is 100 per cent that Cristiano Ronaldo never created any problems within the Manchester United dressing room.”

The Decision to Leave Manchester United
The 37-year-old forward sent in a transfer request to Manchester United over the summer and was absent from the team’s pre-season for a reported family issue. Despite this, Romano’s comments seem to suggest that Ronaldo, while keen on a move away, did not try to create any problems in the dressing room to force a transfer.
The Portugal international enjoyed a good individual season on his return to Manchester, however United were on the back of one of their most unsuccessful seasons in club history. Amid the turmoil, Ronaldo felt that the club didn’t match his ambitions as he entered the twilight of his career.
The club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League and initial reports of new manager Erik ten Hag’s alleged incompatibility with the Portuguese’s style of play were other driving forces behind his decision to look for a move away from Old Trafford in the summer.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, led a desperate pursuit to locate a viable Champions League suitor to purchase one of the all-time greats but failed to secure a move for the player before the transfer deadline. With eight appearances so far this term, albeit mostly as a substitute, time will tell if Ronaldo’s future lies at Old Trafford.
