Championship playoff winners Nottingham Forest have awarded manager Steve Cooper with a new contract. The 42-year-old will remain at the City Ground until 2025.

Nottingham Forest Manager Extended Contract
The Premier League’s bottom side have put faith in manager Steve Cooper. The 42-year-old led Nottingham Forest to promotion in the top flight last season, but pressure was mounting on his position after one win from eight games. Cooper was appointed to the role in 2021 and gained Forest promotion the first season in charge.

During the summer transfer window, Cooper and Forest bought in 21 new players and spent over £145 million in an attempt to make a go of the Premier League. However, Forest only have four points from the eight games played leaving them adrift at the bottom of the table.
A heavy defeat by Leicester City appeared to pile pressure on Cooper and his job at risk. However, the owners of the club have faith in Cooper and are happy and willing to stay with the 42-year-old until 2025. Cooper needs to get results coming in to validate the amount of money and new players bought in over the window, and although a new contract has been signed, if results don’t follow Cooper could still be at risk.

What Was Said
Speaking on his new contract following his side’s defeat to Leicester, he said: “It puts clarity on speculation. No one had ever questioned how much I love it here and want to be here,”
“If there is talk about that it can stop. It doesn’t mean we are going to win the next match and everything is going to be OK.”
Performances and results on the pitch need to improve if Forest hope to remain in the top flight. Extending the contract of Cooper won’t control that, but does give some consistency and should they be relegated the 42-year-old knows that in principal he will be in charge to try and gain promotion again.
