Tottenham Hotspur will no doubt be bouncing after their last-gasp heroics against Bournemouth in the Premier League. At the same time, they will be smarting from what they will feel was three points dropped against Sporting Lisbon last time out in the Champions League. Nevertheless, Spurs’ progress into the knockout stages is still in their hands. Marseille will attempt to wrestle it from them with the backing of their home crowd.

How Tottenham Have Lined-up Recently
Antonio Conte made sure to rotate his team heavily ahead of this vital match against Marseille, making two changes to the starting XI. Ben Davies was brought in for Eric Dier in defence, while Pierre Emile Hojbjerg was in for Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield. The formation remains 3-5-2, with the emphasis on Emerson Royal and Ryan Sessegnon bombing down each wing.
There was some joy eventually for Sessegnon, who was picked out with an eagle-eyed pass from Hojbjerg to squeeze the ball home from a tight angle to turn the tide against Bournemouth.
Son Heung-Min is starting to gather form again, linking up well with Harry Kane in attack. But Spurs now have goalscorers all over the field, with the added threat of set pieces growing stronger with deliveries from Ivan Perisic and Hojbjerg advancing up the field.
Tottenham’s Recent Form and Tactics
Spurs have begun their recovery from a recent poor period of form. Successive losses against Newcastle United and Manchester United have frustrated fans. But one moment sent them into real fury. It was in a moment where Tottenham thought they had snatched three vital points against Sporting in the Champions League, only for VAR to take four minutes to agonise over an offside decision. The goal was chalked off. It must have felt like a loss for the players.
Tactically, Spurs are still reliant on their wingbacks to get up the pitch to begin attacks. As part of this, Conte’s side like to play on the counter, exploiting the pace of Son and Sessegnon. Sometimes this means Spurs only create a few golden chances in a game, especially against tougher opposition. It will be interesting to see how the Lilywhites attack the Marseille game, considering they will be playing away from home in a hostile atmosphere.
Tottenham Injuries to Consider
Dejan Kulusevski seems to be making a good recovery for Tottenham. He was spotted going through the paces at Bournemouth.
At Bournemouth #thfc. Kulusevski doing a pretty intense fitness session here. Has done about 30 lengths of the half-pitch now, with maybe 10 secs rest in between. He looks alright. pic.twitter.com/Hbp8xxtz03

While it is good to see Kulusevski starting active steps to recover from his injury, he has been ruled out for the Marseille clash. The Swedish winger has been an important player for Spurs, who look so much stronger with his creativity and attacking drive from the flanks.
Richarlison remains sidelined, while Cristian Romero is also out.
